Tracks show wrong tags, or "no metadata found"
If some tracks show up as "Track 01," "Track 02"… with no artist or album - or a disc you ripped landed scattered across a handful of random, unfamiliar artists - here's what happened and how to set it right.
The short answer
Those tracks came in without metadata, and Vesari Stylus deliberately leaves them grouped together but untagged rather than guessing and getting it wrong. Your audio is fine - only the labels are missing. To fill them in, use Super-Tag, which identifies tracks by their sound rather than their filename, or type the details in with the tag editor.
Why the tags are missing
Every disc or file that shows real artist and album names got them from an online music database. Tags go missing when:
- The disc or files aren't listed in those databases. Rare pressings, home-made compilations and some regional releases simply aren't catalogued, so there's nothing to look up, and the tracks fall back to placeholder names like "Track 01."
- It's an enhanced or "CD-Extra" disc (a music CD that also carries a data section). These often aren't matched the same way an ordinary audio CD is.
When only placeholder names are available, Vesari Stylus won't accept a name-based guess - a title like "Track 01" can accidentally "match" completely unrelated songs and scatter your album across strangers' names. Keeping the tracks together and unlabelled is the safe, honest choice. That's the grouping you're seeing.
Fix it with Super-Tag (recommended)
Super-Tag identifies music by an acoustic fingerprint of the audio itself, so it works even when the filename is useless.
- Select the untagged tracks, or the whole album.
- Run Super-Tag.
- Review the suggested match, then apply it.
Leave fingerprinting on - it's far more accurate than any filename-based guess, and it's what makes uncatalogued tracks identifiable.
If Super-Tag still finds nothing
Sometimes even the fingerprint databases have gaps. A couple of things to check:
- Unusual formats such as DTS, AC-3 or TrueHD need FFmpeg installed and on your system PATH to work in Vesari Stylus at all - and without it, Super-Tag may not be able to read them to fingerprint. If FFmpeg is missing, install it and try again.
- Truly rare recordings may simply not be in any database yet.
When that happens, use the tag editor to enter the title, artist and album by hand. You can edit a whole album at once with bulk editing, and the tags save straight into your files.
When it looks like a genuine bug
If a clearly well-known, mainstream album refuses to tag, or tracks land scattered across obviously wrong artists even after Super-Tag, that may be a fault worth fixing. Use the built-in report a problem option so the details reach us - that's more useful than guessing at a workaround.
