Stream your library to your phone
Your whole library can play on your phone, in the car, or on another hi-fi endpoint - Vesari Stylus has a small streaming server built in, and connecting to it is free with no limit on how many devices you use.
The app includes an OpenSubsonic server: turn it on once, then point any OpenSubsonic music app at it. It transcodes on the fly, so a large lossless or surround file won't choke a phone connection.
Turn on Remote Access
Remote Access is off by default - none of your music leaves your machine until you switch it on yourself. To enable it:
- Open Settings → Remote Access.
- Turn on remote streaming.
- Restart the app so the change takes effect.
- Back in Settings → Remote Access, reveal and copy the password. Your username is
admin, and the password is generated automatically on first run.
Keep that username and password handy - you'll type them into the phone app next.
Connect a phone app
Vesari Stylus works with any OpenSubsonic client, so you bring your own app. Popular choices are Symfonium (Android) and substreamer (iOS); others work too.
In your chosen app, add a new server and enter:
- Server address: your home PC's address on your network, followed by the port the app prints when it starts up (for example,
https://192.168.1.20:4242). Read the exact port from that startup line. - Username:
admin - Password: the one you copied from Settings.
The server uses a self-signed certificate, so some apps may warn you about it or ask you to allow it - that's expected on a home connection. Once connected, browse your library and press play. You're now streaming from your PC over your home network. For the smoothest first test, keep the phone on the same Wi-Fi as the PC.
Keeping big files light
The server transcodes on the fly: when your phone app asks for a smaller stream, it shrinks the audio for the trip while your original files stay untouched at home. That's what keeps a high-resolution lossless track - or a surround mix - from saturating a phone connection. In your phone app, look for a "transcode on cellular" option or a maximum-bitrate setting and turn it on.
Playback through a phone goes through the phone's own audio path, so remote listening is about convenience rather than the bit-exact output you get on your main rig at home.
Streaming is free
Connecting devices and streaming your library costs nothing and isn't capped - add as many phones, tablets, or car head units as you like.
Listening away from home
