The play queue & "Up Next"
Every time you start a track, Vesari Stylus builds a play queue around it - so when the song ends, the next one is ready to go. Here's how that queue works and how to steer it.
What's playing, and what's next
When you play a track from an album or a playlist, the app lines up everything after it as the play queue. That's why playback keeps rolling to the next track on its own, in order.
Alongside that, there's a separate Up Next list you control by hand. Anything you add to Up Next plays before the app returns to the album or playlist you were listening to. Think of it as a short-term "play these next, then carry on where I was" list.
Add a track to play next
You can slot tracks into Up Next two ways (the exact wording may differ slightly in your menu):
- Play next - puts the track (or tracks) at the top of Up Next, so it plays right after the current one finishes.
- Add to queue - puts the track at the end of Up Next, so it plays after anything already waiting there.
If nothing is playing when you do this, the app just starts the first track straight away.
Once your Up Next list empties out, playback quietly picks up where the original album or playlist left off. You can also remove any single track from Up Next, or clear the whole list, without disturbing what's playing right now.
The back button
The back button is smart about what "previous" means:
- If you're more than a few seconds into a track, it restarts the current track from the beginning.
- If you're right at the start, it jumps to the track you played before this one.
So a quick double-tap on back is the reliable way to reach the previous song.
Shuffle and repeat
Shuffle mixes up the order that tracks are chosen from the surrounding album or playlist, so you get them in a random order instead of top to bottom.
Repeat has a few modes: repeat the whole album or playlist when it reaches the end, repeat just the one current track over and over, or turn repeat off so playback simply stops at the end.
One thing worth knowing: your Up Next list always wins. If you've queued tracks by hand, they play in the order you set - shuffle and repeat-one step aside until Up Next is empty, because a track you deliberately queued is a clearer signal than a shuffle or repeat setting. Once Up Next clears, shuffle and repeat resume as normal.
A couple of notes
- Your Up Next list is cleared when you close the app - it's meant for the current listening session, not to be saved permanently.
- If a track in the queue is damaged or unplayable, the app skips past it automatically rather than stalling.
